Women at the grassroots should be sensitized on their rights- WARDC

As part of its efforts to curb violence against women, a non-governmental organization, Women’s Advocates Research and Documentation Centre (WARDC) has called for women at the grassroots level to be sensitized on their rights.

It noted that during the lockdown, there were increased cases of abused women and girls owing to the fact that the victims were more vulnerable to their violators.

Although there has been a number of sensitization programmes on the internet and the media, this information does not always get to the people at the grassroots since they do not have access to certain mobile devices.

The group further called on non-governmental organizations, civil society groups, and the government to create more empowerment opportunities for women as gender equality cannot be achieved when women do not have the resources to empower themselves.
