ENDSARS: Ejigbo Youths Protest Against Police Brutality

Youths in Ejigbo, Jakande Estate, Oke-Afa, and its environs took to the streets on a peaceful protest in solidarity with the ongoing end SARS protest and in condemnation of police brutality. The group of youths led by a popular comedian, Otoloorin Kehinde Peters also known as Kenny Blaq, converged at the Ejigbo Local Government Council to seek an audience with the Council Chairman and to voice their grievances.

The youths, who are determined to end bad governance in Nigeria made five demands which in their opinion would alleviate incidences of police brutality in Nigeria. They demanded the immediate release of all arrested protesters, justice for all deceased victims of police brutality and appropriate compensation for their families, setting up and independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of all reports of police misconduct, psychological evaluation and re-training of all officers of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad before they can be re-deployed, increase police salary so that they are adequately compensated for protecting lives and property of citizens.

Addressing the youths, the Ejigbo LCDA chairman, Honourable Monsuru Bello Obe assured the youths that the federal and state government were working together to address their demands.

He noted that President Mohammadu Buhari had already directed the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu to disband the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), adding that the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had equally addressed the youths the day before after which he promised to meet with Mr. President on the matter.

The council chairman further implored the protesters to go about their lawful businesses as the authorities from the federal government have announced the disbandment of the SARS division of the Nigeria Police.
