ENDSARS Protest: Protesters take over Ago Roundabout

Since Friday, October 16, vehicular movement at Ago Roundabout and environs have witnessed a lock jam as youths of the area have relentlessly continued to press for an end to the Police Special Anti-Robbery Squad and police brutality even as the government has shut down the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

The road blockage caused by the protesters led to traffic gridlock in the axis but motorists were unmoved as they endured the present situation patiently.

A businessman, Mr. Emeka Orji in a chat with Community Bell said, “I don’t mind staying in the traffic as long as we put an end to SARS and police brutality because we have suffered long in this country, it is worth the sacrifice.”

One of the protesters, James Odiri says, “I want a Nigeria that will be safe for my children and that is why I am coming out to support the fight against police brutality, we need other people to also lend their voices to this cause so that we can have a better Nigeria.

One of the youths, Bolaji Idris adding his voice told Community Bell, “No youth in Nigeria is relenting until we see a change. Every local government needs to feel the heat and to also be aware that their own people have also been affected and harassed by SARS.”

This is the tenth day of the nationwide protest against Police brutality, and Nigeria’s Inspector General of Police, Mr. Muhammed Adamu had earlier announced the disbandment of SARS replacing it with SWAT.

The protesting youths say SWAT is not any different from SARS and must be banned as well.
