The WHO Director-General, Tedros Ghebreyesus, made the announcement during the launch of the ACT Accelerator in Geneva, Switzerland.

“I would especially like to thank Sir Andrew Witty and Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for agreeing to act as Special Envoys for the ACT Accelerator,” Mr Ghebreyesus said.

The appointment comes barely few weeks after the IMF appointed her as a member of the fund’s External Advisory Group, Okonjo-Iweala shall work in the same capacity as British business executive, Andrew Witty, to mobilise international commitment to the initiative.

The initiative is an international concern with the objective to accelerate the development, production, and equitable distribution of COVID-19 drugs, tests kits, and vaccines around the world.
