We have all been told by other people; our parents, family, spouses, media, friends, bosses, colleagues, teachers and so on about what success is. Success to me is having a goal set aside, which could be pushing a career, a business or whatever I envision at a given time and working towards achieving it. At the point where I eventually achieve it, then can I say it was successful. Success is a benchmark of comparison between previous and current results and to evaluate how much I have achieved. It is not only about goals, it could also be in terms of an inner peace derived.

I would liken it to my business. When I first started, my shop was not as stocked up as it is now. It has grown bigger than when I started and I have plans to expand it, that is success to me. First off, I don’t believe success has anything to do with money or wealth. My definition of it is when one is able to become who they are meant to be, which is realised when one discovers purpose and fulfils it. So I’d say finding purpose unlocks the path to success and fulfilling purpose is success. One is successful when one’s life is a solution to a lot of societal problems. I will deem myself successful when I eventually find my purpose and live it.

It is about having good health and making achievements like building a house to accommodate my family because anybody who doesn’t have money in Nigeria is seen as an infidel and treated like a slave.

Success to me is helping the poor and those in need. Also, it means the ability to go on a vacation or have some days off from work As a hairdresser, I rarely have a day off, I am always working because I have a lot of bills to pay.
