Two house-helps bag 2 1/2 year jail term

Two house-helps, Abraham Samuel and Emmanuel Okon, aged 20 and 24 respectively has been sentenced to two and half years imprisonment by an Isolo Magistrate court for stealing property belonging to their employee’s brother, one, Christian Uzoaru.

The stolen properties consisted of an LG flat screen television valued at N82,000, Panasonic sound system valued at N65, 000, GO TV decoder, clipper valued at N6,000, 2 ceiling fans, cloths and an Ecolac box containing clothes and vital documents valued at N115. A total of N278, 000. Plus an iPad worth $1,800 (N648, 000) belonging to their employer, one Oghenebrume Sankey.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Oje Uagbale, “Uzoaru kept some of his properties in Sankey Limited’s office situated at Osibote Street, Okota Lagos. Only to be informed by the company’s store keeper, one Seun, that some of the complainant’s properties had been stolen. Further investigations traced the culprits behind the thefts to Samuel and Okon” he said.

The 3 count charges against them of conspiring to commit felony to wit stealing were said to be offences punishable under sections 411, 287, 280 and punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The convicts who had pleaded not guilty, was found guilty by the Chief Magistrate, Olufumilayo A. Teluwo and sentenced to two and half years in prison.

Samuel was employed at Sankey as a cook and Okon as the laundry man.
