Police arrest teenager who stabbed secondary student to death in Lagos

L AGOS State Police Command has arrested a teenager, Adewale Jamiu who allegedly stabbed to death a 16-year-old senior secondary school student of Government Secondary School, Alapere – Ijanikin in Ojo area, Wasiu Abdulahhi.    The teenage suspect, Adewale Jamiu who has been on the run since the incident took place was arrested by a team of policemen led by the Ijanikin Divisional Police Officer, while attempting to escape at Iyana Isashi waterside.  His arrest came three days after he allegedly stabbed the deceased with a knife suspected to have been laced with native concoctions which he brought from home, while trying to attack Fowosere, another student who beat him up the previous day.    Community Bell gathered that immediately after the incident, Adewale Jamiu who fled the scene called his parents to flee from their abode located at Moruntola Street in Otto behind Otto Awori local council developmental area to evade police arrest. However after monitoring their

house, the police received intelligence report that the suspect was hiding at Iyana- Isashi area of Ojo.   A classmate of Abdullahi who spoke on the condition of anonymity stated, “On Thursday, Abdullahi’s friend, Fowosere beat up Adewale because he took his phone. So, on Friday while Fowosere and Abdulahi were coming back from school, Adewale attacked him with a knife he brought from home at Vespa bus stop, Ijanikin. Ironically, Adewale wanted to attack Fowosere who is the son of an Alfa but he narrowly escaped and Abdulahi became the sacrificial lamb. The whole episode is still like a dream.    “Abdullahi was bleeding profusely and shouting for help when it happened. We had to use his uniform to cover his neck while taking him to Ademola Hospital, yet he didn’t survive because the bleeding was too much.”    Lamenting about the activities of students of Government Secondary School, Alapere- Ijanikin, a landlord, Kolawole Adebayo who lives at Docas Boyo Street said it was quite unfortunate that young students would engage themselves in all sorts of unwholesome attitude and their activities are getting out of hand.   “Almost every Friday, they attack each other with dangerous weapons. Sometime ago, one of the students went into coma after a student used some native concoctions on him. It took the intervention of a native doctor to revive him. The school has become very notorious to the extent that students are openly armed with guns.”   Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, DSP Bala Elkana said investigation was ongoing and that the case has been transferred to State Investigation and Intelligence Department, Panti, Yaba for further investigation.
