War is brewing between members of the Ondo State House of Assembly and the state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.
The bone of contention is the composition of the committees set up by the governor to alleviate the suffering of the people, following the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, rising from a meeting presided over by the Speaker, Bamidele Oleyelogun, on Monday, the lawmakers rejected the governor’s directive and said they would not to serve in the committees because it was a slight on their status as elected representatives of the people.
Spokesperson of the House of Assembly, Hon. Olugbenga Omole, in a statement lauded the governor for setting up the palliative committee, but said it was wrong for the governor to say the lawmakers would work as assistants to the committee members.
The lawmakers also passed vote of confidence on the Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Majority Leader and other principal officers of the Assembly.
The composition of the committee also did not go down well with the residents, especially with the the appointment of the governor’s son, Babajide Akeredolu, as the secretary of the Response Fund Committee.
People also faulted the appointment of the state Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Jacob Adebo, alias ‘Idajo’, as a member of the committee.
