Meat seller indicted for car vandalization

A 27-year-old meat seller, Samod Olasunkanmi has been indicted by one Hammed Akorede for vandalizing his Toyota Camry car and carting away his valuables kept in the car, which included the sum of seven thousand Naira, ten rolls of binding wire, car battery, a wristwatch, car tape and two sets of the gearbox.

The vandalization was said to have occurred at Pako, Isolo-Egbe Road, where the car was parked beside Akorede’s family shop at about 8 pm due to a fault the car developed.

It was gathered that Akorede after parking the car there, left for home and returned a day after to discover that his white Toyota Camry car with registration number KRD 269 CX has been tampered with.

According to Akorede, the matter was promptly reported to the Seriki Oba of Isolo International Market, who told him to search around the neighbourhood to see if he could find any of the missing items.

“After I discovered the vandalization and disappearance of the items, I reported the matter to the Seriki – the Oba of Isolo International Market who asked us to search around bollar for the missing items.

“We tried our best searching for the person who vandalized the car and the missing items all to no avail. Until I saw my wristwatch on someone’s wrist.

“I approached the person and asked him where he got the watch. He told me it was somebody who gave it to him. I requested that he take me to the said person when we reached there, the person said he bought it over from some other person named Samod.

“I suspected Samod to be the person that broke into my car since my wristwatch was traced to him as the final stop and I kept the wristwatch inside the car. And also because everybody knows him as a thief around that area.

“Even Seriki confirmed him as a thief for long and everybody around testified to the same thing,” Akorede said.

However, (Samod) Olasunkanmi denied the allegations. He claims he did not vandalize the car either did he steal anything off it, he said he found the watch on the ground near the driver’s side and picked it.

“I went to take my bath at bollar and as I was coming to Isolo, I saw a wristwatch on the ground near a packed Toyota Camry and I picked it.

“There was nobody around the place and I don’t know whether the car was locked or not. I started using the watch until one Aboki saw it on my wrist and admired it. He later asked me to sell the watch to him and I agreed.

“I sold the watch to him at the rate of six hundred Naira to enable me to buy medicine to treat a wound.

“I did not know anything about the (car) spare parts they vandalized from the vehicle. I did not steal anything from the vehicle. What I know is that I saw the watch on the ground near the driver’s side. He said.

The police are presently conducting further investigations on the matter.
