Mayorrh Academy holds Fruits day, encourages healthy eating habit

As part of efforts to create a fun-filled learning environment, while encouraging consumption of fruits in diet, Mayorrh Academy Ejigbo, recently organised a fruit day activity to further drive this message.

The event which held recently witnessed the students placed in groups, and various fruits including oranges, watermelons, bananas and cherries were on display. Highlight of the event were question and answer sessions to test the pupils’ knowledge of different types of fruits with students rewarded for their brilliance.

The students were also taught and introduced to other not too popular fruits including avocado pear and berries. They were also taught to prepare fruits juices, and encouraged to consume them more regularly which is key to a healthy eating habit.

Speaking to Community Bell, director of the school, Mr. Mayowa Ajanaku said the event is targeted at enlightening students on different types of fruits, its usefulness and health benefits.

“In Home Economics, there is an aspect that teaches the importance of fruits and this is a platform to gain practical experience of what they had learnt.

“Hence we placed the children in groups and asked them to bring different fruits. The fruits served as instructional materials to aid learning and we believe that when they get back home, they will educate their parents with what they have learnt.

Mr. Ajanaku stressed that they always try to teach the children through extra-curricular activities because they believe that children should learn through fun. “This is why we periodically organise sporting and entertainment events and we encourage them by giving awards to best performing students at the end of these events.
