Man rapes neighbour’s down syndrome daughter…Says his intention is to marry victim

A 30-year old man, Dare Oyekola arraigned in court for raping a girl with Down Syndrome has revealed his intentions to marry the victim.

Dare Oyekola who was arraigned before an Ogba Magistrate’s Court for defilement said through his counsel that him and the victim were lovers and he was ready and prepared to marry the victim.

Community Bell learned that Oyekola took advantage of the victim who is living with Down Syndrome and raped her when her parents had gone to work at their residence in Ogooluwa Close, Alakuko area of Lagos.

However, the suspicion of the victim’s parents was confirmed when they eventually caught Oyekola in the act and got him arrested by the police. During interrogation, Oyekola reportedly told the Police and the victim’s parents that he wanted to negotiate in order to get married to her.

Unfortunately, the Police refused and went ahead and charged him before the Ogba Magistrates Court for defilement. According to the Police, Oyekola was seen by their neighbours sneaking in and out of the victim’s apartment whenever her parents went to work to have canal knowledge of her.

Unknown to him that words of his illicit activities had gotten to her parents, who observed that the victim had been abused severally. At the court, the prosecutor, Mr. Michael Unah, asked the Court to refer the matter to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) because it was a case of defilement which was felony and attracts serious punishment if the defendant was found culpable.

Meanwhile, the Presiding Magistrate, Mr. A.A. Fashola, ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison custody and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) for advice. The matter was adjourned till 25th March, 2020 when report from the DPP will be available.
