Lagos NNPC fire outbreak force residents to defy social distancing order

The fire outbreak which reportedly occurred at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) filling station, located on College Road, along Yaya Abatan in the Ogba area of Lagos State has forced residents to fight the inferno themselves before the arrival of firefighters.

The outbreak allegedly occurred at about 12 noon yesterday when a fully loaded tanker arrived at the filling station to discharge its petrol contents.

While detailed official information is yet to be released as to the cause of the outbreak, residents of the area say the fire broke out before the tanker began discharging the fuel.

Firemen of the Lagos state and federal fire service, who were initially faced with a mild protest by the angry crowd for purportedly arriving late, were able to curtail further spread of the fire.

Apart from some nearby buildings affected by the fire, no casualties have been reported so far.
