‘It was my friend who lured me into armed robbery’ – 20-year-old suspect

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 20 – year old man, Anans John from Adamawa state for armed robbery.

The suspect is a member of a three-man armed robbery gang that specialises in using motorcycle to rob unsuspecting motorists within Festac town and its environs.

It was gathered that John met his waterloo thirty minutes after he and two members of his gang robbed a motorists at Agboju Area of Lagos.

The trio were tracked via the tracking device on the phone to their hideout where they were sharing their loot. While the other two escaped, John was arrested with a pistol.

The Suspect’s Account
Narrating how he got involved in the crime, Anans John said “it was my friend AJ that lured me into armed robbery. I met them in Festac. They came to my place of work and convinced me to follow them for the operation. It was the first time I went with them for an operation that I was arrested”.

It was an iPhone and a Samsung phone that we collected from the victim. Unknown to me that one of the phones we robbed had tracker. So the police tracked us down and arrested me at Festac.

“The victim was coming from the service lane when we attacked them. The other two members of the gang alighted from the bike and robbed the victim. Immediately they were done, I rode off to another location where we parked. It wasn’t up to 30 minutes after the robbery that the Police arrested me.

Explaining further, John said, “I came to Lagos last year. I was a farmer in my home town in Adamawa. I came in search of greener pastures. The Bike we used for the operation is owned by one of my friend but I was the one riding it.

They came to me because they knew I could ride Okada. They ran with the Okada. They escaped when police was shooting. Police found a gun with me when the arrested me.
