Ighalo’s shoes too big for me – Osimhen

Nigeria international, Victor Osimhen says it will be difficult for him to emulate his compatriot, Odion Ighalo.

Ighalo, who won the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Golden Boot award, is currently on the books of one of the biggest football clubs in the world, Manchester United.

Ighalo and Osimhen

Lille OSC striker, Osimhen feels that Ighalo has silenced his critics in recent years having represented Nigeria at major tournaments like AFCON and 2018 FIFA World Cup.

“He has shut the mouth of the critics, I am really happy. He is so amazing,” said Osimhen in an Instagram conversation with the Super Eagles Media Team.

“Everything that he has done for the national team, it will be difficult before I will fill in his shoes or even to surpass him will take a lot of time.

Osimhen, 21, is widely considered to be the next Nigeria superstar having impressed at French giants, Lille this season.

“The kind of player that endures such criticism – from the World Cup, national team. He did well to qualify us, for me he’s already a legend.

“Ighalo is there and will continue to be there because he’s done so well not just in football,” he added.

Ighalo, 30, was also the highest goal scorer in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign.

He is currently on loan at Manchester United from Chinese Super League club, Shanghai Greenland Shenhua.
