‘I spend my money on prostitutes’ – notorious robbery suspect reveals

A member of a nine-member armed robbery gang, Gambo Isa, who is currently being investigated by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) Lagos State Police Command has revealed that he was part of the robbery operation that disarmed a police officer and took his AK47 riffle.

According to the 20-year old motor boy, “I have being living in Lagos for five years but I became an armed robber for over two years. The leader of our gang is Sholly aka okoko danger was the one that recruited me into armed robbery. He also initiated me into Eiye confraternity like other members of the gang.

We carry out our robbery operations across Lagos State. We have robbed severally at Badagry, Ikotun, Iyano-era, Sabo Ajangbadi, Alagbado and Okoko”.

“Sholly is the one that determines who participate or which location we go for an operation. We normally use two bikes while operating and we rob three or four locations daily. We go for robbery in the morning at about 11am and in the night at about 8pm”.

At the end of the day Sholly sells the loot (phones and other valuables) add to the cash we collected from our victims. He shares it accordingly. Sometimes I make about 20,000 each day. I spend my share on alcohol and commercial sex workers.”

“It is a soilder Lala who supplies us with arms and ammunition. Once he comes from Maiduguri where he goes to fight boko haram. After each operation Sholly gives him returns”.

“I don’t know where Sholly lives because he lodges in hotel with another of our gang member Olomi aka hefty, whenever we want to for any operation we use the field at the back of Iyana- Oba Market Complex as our meeting point before we go for operation.

Sometimes when we go for operation without sholly we also give him returns from what we make”.

It was gathered that Isa Gambo, Seyi Egunjobi, Ramon Adebimbe and Kareem Saeed were arrested after police received intelligence report on Thursday last week that a robbery kingpin Sholly aka okoko danger who has been on the wanted list of the police for terrorising Ojo, Alimosho, and Badagry communities and his new recruits were planning an operation.

Sequel to the report, operatives of SARS attached to PPL Divisional Police post storm their hideout and arrested five suspects while the others including the kingpin escaped.

The Police recovered three locally made guns

It was learned that the kingpin Sholly aka okoko have foot soldiers in the community who are informats who alert him whenever police was on his trail.

When some of his gang members who are currently in prison were arrested last year, six locally made guns were recovered from them.

Explaining how he got into armed robbery, another suspect Seyi Egunjobi 22, “from Oyo state said I knew Isa about three months ago. But I have been robbing with another of our gang member called Blessing boy. I spent five months in prison in Ogun State because of fighting”.

According to 15-year old Ramon Adebimbe, I am learning how to barb. I am one of the foot soldiers of the gang. I also steal phones at bus stops from unsuspecting victims.

Like Ramon, 18-year old Kareem Saeed is also one of the gan’sg spies, the vulcanizer apprentice is a professional in stealing generators from unfenced houses.

16-year old, Titilayo Joel said “one of the armed robbers, Lanre aka whitey who escaped when the Police stormed their hideout is my lover. Initially when we started dating last year I didn’t know he was an armed robber. But when I discovered he was an armed robber I couldn’t end the relationship for fear of being attacked. I was with him and some of his gang members when we were arrested. I was the one that showed the police where the guns were”.
