Four suspects arrested over death of teenage housemaid

 The Lagos State Police Command is currently investigating four suspects for allegedly killing a 16-year-old house girl in Bariga.

The suspects were arrested on Saturday 9th May 2020 after officers attached to Bariga Police Station received information that 41-year old Shade Moke conspired with three others three months ago and killed her housemaid, Halimat Sodiq over an allegation of stealing the sum of two thousand naira.

It was gathered that Shade Moke invited three others who tortured the victim to death and secretly buried her at Atan cemetery.

Suspect’s account

Denying the allegation, the four suspects admitted slapping the girl for denying that she stole the money.

According to Shade Moke, “we only slapped Halimat. However, she went into convulsion after drinking water. And we took her to three different hospitals before she eventually died. We are not the ones that buried her. It was her parents that buried her”.

Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson Lagos state police command DSP Bala Elkana, the victim Halimat Sodiq, a house help to Shade Moke, was alleged of stealing two thousand naira (N2000) from her madam which she denied.

However, Shade Moke, the madam invited the other three suspects who tortured the girl to death. After which they secretly buried her at Atan cemetery Lagos, so as to conceal the murder. The parents were also contacted for their statements.

However, the Commissioner of Police Lagos State, CP Hakeem Odumosu has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department Yaba for discreet investigation and diligent prosecution. The suspects will soon be charged to Court.

In a related development, the Lagos State Police has arrested Owolabi Fasasi of Ogun Street Mushin for his involvement in the death of one Taiwo Adekoya in Mushin.

It was learned that Owolabi Fasasi was arrested after he pushed the victim down while she was attempting to settle a dispute between the suspect and her employee.

It was learned that troubled started on May 1st 2020, when the suspect  Fasasi appeared from nowhere, while Anuoluwapo Adeyemi of Itire Road, Mushin, was having a discussion with her husband.

According to Anuoluwapo Adeyemi, “while I was discussing with my husband, Fasasi came threatening to go away with her three months old baby, Kausarat Owolabi. He did not explain why he is taking my child away. People around made frantic efforts to pacify him but he refused. Fasasi kept on shouting and threatening violence, insisting to take away my child. Unfortunately when he was dragging the baby in order to actualize his threat. He pushed my boss, Taiwo Adekoya who was among the sympathizers and she became unconscious. The victim was rushed to the hospital, but was later confirmed dead”.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson Lagos state police command DSP Bala Elkana said the corpse of the deceased was deposited at the mortuary for autopsy. Meanwhile, Investigation is ongoing the suspect will be charged to Court.
