“Female leaders will solve more problems in the society” – Ironsi

In commemoration of International Women’s Day 2021, Executive Director Women’ Rights and Health Project, Bose Ironsi has beckoned on women to step forward to provide solutions to the problems facing the country.

In a media chat with journalists in Ikotun, she noted that women were most hit by the Coronavirus pandemic and suggested that women be engaged in leadership roles to address the problems posed by the pandemic.

“You cannot solve a person’s problem if they are not part of the solution, this is the reason why we need to engage the women. Women must ensure that they are part of the solution by ensuring that they are also in leadership roles to address the issues that Covid has brought to us. The government must leave that big brother space and interact more with community women, civil society groups, non-governmental organisations, community based organisations, faith based and religious groups and artisans, they must work with them to bring about this change.

“They must also identify those gaps that came during Covid and address them. If women and their sources of livelihood were seriously affected, you must consider them. So it is important that women in leadership positions be encouraged to sustain their roles. Everyone including men and women must realise that we cannot have a good society and development in the country if we don’t involve 50 percent or more of women in decision making.”

Also noting the impact of Covid-19 on women and girls, she advocated for an inclusive and equitable Covid-19 vaccination programme in Nigeria.
