Covid-19: Only hardened crime suspects’ll be detained after screening -Police

The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Muhammad Adamu has announced that the Nigeria Police would screen criminal suspects for Coronavirus.

He said, henceforth only hardened criminal suspects would be recommended for detention in police cells across the country.

In a statement released Sunday evening by Police Public Relations Officer, Frank Mba, Adamu directed that “adequate measures be emplaced to screen persons to be committed into police custody. “He reiterates that detention of suspects must be reduced to the barest minimum and that only very serious cases, such as terrorism, armed robbery, homicide and other non-bailable offences should warrant detention.”

The police boss also disclosed the closure of all police colleges and other training facilities in accordance with federal directive on closure of all public schools.

The directive is coming on the heels of rising cases of COVID-19 infections in Nigeria and globally.
