COVID-19- “confirmed cases in Lagos clinically stable” – Prof Abayomi

Lagos State Health Commissioner, Professor Akin Abayomi has announced that all confirmed case of covid-19 in the state are clinically stable.

Taking to his twitter handle yesterday, Professor Abayomi disclosed that “70% of the cases are males while 30% are females with age band most affected put at 30 to 39yrs.”

He noted that 16% of the cases involved foreign nationals while 84% are Nigerians. He noted that the number of imported cases initially stood at 82% of total confirmed cases, while 16% of the cases were contacted from imported cases and origin of 2% of the cases couldn’t be ascertained.

The top 5 LGAs with Passengers of interest (POIs) are: Eti-Osa, Ikeja, Alimosho, Kosofe and Oshodi areas of Lagos.

Professor Abayomi disclosed that the ‘Activation of Incident Command System’ was already in place four weeks prior to discovery of index case and this put Lagos on top of the situation. After four weeks, Lagos has fared better in managing the crisis compared with the situation in Italy, Iran and Spain that got into exponential phase after 3-4 weeks.

In his words, “we are on the lookout for local transmission as imported cases will drop significantly because of the closure of the airports. However, current trend indicates that community transmission is not on the rise yet”.
There are 3 testing sites in Lagos namely: IDH-Yaba, @LUTHofficial and @nimrnigeria

Professor assured that the Lagos State Response team @followlasg #COVID19 remain committed to aggressive containment measures against the spread of the virus urging every citizen to continue to observe social distancing.
