Clerics have called for synergy among all security agencies, to re-strategize and re-examine the security structure with a view to stemming the rising tides of terrorism in Nigeria.

Prophet Leon Okose of the Morning Star Church of the Cherubim and Seraphim Movement said there was need for government to look into the welfare of security personnel, stressing that this plays a vital role in the way and manner they carry out their mandate. He said that security in Nigeria remains the biggest challenge, adding that it is high time we explore new strategies and approaches.

According to him, if care is not taken, we will be expecting the worst of the security problems we are facing in Nigeria. “Nigerians should remain vigilant and provide relevant information to security agencies to avert potential threats to peace and security in the country.

“All criminals are members of our society and they live in our midst, we all have the responsibility of ensuring that we take exceptional interest in the people living around us by reporting suspicious movements,” he added.

Venerable Emmanuel Anyasodu of All Saints Anglican Church, Surulere called for continuous prayers for the country to overcome its current security challenges. He said seeking divine intervention would help tackle kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities perpetrated in some parts of the country. He said the life of every citizen was precious, and that it was worth protecting.

The Cleric also called for an end to bloodshed in the country, stressing that whether a Christian or Muslim, every life is precious to God. He called on security agencies in the country to flush out criminals and enemies of the country. “We must live in peace with one another irrespective of socio-cultural and religious backgrounds, if the country is to develop,” he said.

He said that there was need for collaborative efforts of all and sundry to tackle threats to internal security in the country. “Security cuts across the federal, states, local governments, political associations, religious groups, communities and individuals; it is a collective responsibility and we all must see it as such,” he said.
